The budget process for the next fiscal year has begun with Governor Baker releasing his recommendations which include cuts to the line items that fund AIDS service organizations: a $2.5 M cut to the HIV/AIDS/Hepatitis C Line Item and a $900K cut to the Harm Reduction Line Item.
As advocates for people living with HIV/AIDS, you know that these organizations have been on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring no lapses in service delivery, continuing to serve hard to reach populations, and maintaining the infrastructure that the COVID response has relied upon.
It is critical for your legislator to hear from you in order to prioritize restoring these cuts in the House and Senate versions of the budget! Please reach out to your lawmakers and ask them to include this level funding in their FY22 budget priorities:
- the HIV/AIDS/Hepatitis C Line Item (DPH 4512-0103) at $30.8 million
- the Harm Reduction Line Item (DPH 4512-0206) at $4.7 million
There is a space in the letter to add your own personal message, please share what you are comfortable with so your legislators understand how important this funding is.
Level funding will ensure that the most vulnerable populations in our communities are still able to connect to the care they need, access COVID services, and protect the proven infrastructure that public health efforts have depended on for effective COVID response.
Thank you for your advocacy!
